My Favorite Method to Find Your Quilter Quarter Inch Seam

You can use the cuffs to make little pouches. Sew up the sides, leave a flap to fold over and fasten. The flap can have the button holes and you can relocate the buttons to fasten the pouch. You can use the pouch for money, makeup, a small sewing kit to travel with you.... the sky is the limit. You can put the pouch in your pocket book. The interfacing in the cuff makes the pouch sturdier and the pattern of the shirt makes the pouch decorative.

Hi. New to your channel, just watched your green crumb block video, loving your enthusiasm for using up as much fabric as possible. Men's shirts often yield very good quality cotton, I buy clothing for fabric from charity shops, and often find some treasures on their £1 sale rail. Working the shirt pocket into a quilt is a brilliant idea. I've used small fabric pieces to make small items like shoe toe stuffers - include a loop for pulling, pack firmly with toy filling, stitch up the gap - keeps your shoes in good shape. Colour co-ordinated crumb blocks is something I've never thought of. I shall be hunting through the charity shops soon. Lovely videos, thank you. E❤

shirt weight fabric is not the same as quilt weight quality fabrics. Cotton comes in different weights of greige in production. Knowing this just compare weights, wear and textures. Keeping your quilt consistent with those differences, makes for easier care and similar wear. 💚

👍I’ve been collecting shirts for years. I never pay more than $3. I cut mine just as you. Just get it done. You didn’t say, but I go straight to the washer when I come home. I even starch/ iron before I cut up. My rule is..I can’t buy more until those are cleaned/iron/cut/ folded and put away. My thrift stores are not good, so I find my treasures at estate sales and yard sales..very best place to buy are church sales. This year alone, I have been able to go to 4 quilters estate sales! You would not believe how much good, clean fabric I have purchased!! Cutting mats, very good sewing scissors, thread, rotary cutters/blades and oh my goodness..so many rulers! Estate Sales..google your area weekly and go..(KH)

I may not be as prolific but i do have system that works for me. Anything smaller than a fat quarter is a scrap imo. I usualy fold and keep my scrap in a box, color coordinated in ziplock bags. Anything under 2 inches wide is being cut up and sewn into an hexie for my EPP quilting. EPP is what i do during my lunch break and in the bus so i run out of hexagon quite fast.

I'm new to buying thrift shop shirts for material. What would be an appropriate price for these shirts? I am disabled and have to send my sister to look for what I want, but I don't know how to give her a price range. We've never thrifted before and don't know what to expect to pay. I bought 8 pieces of material that were 19x19 inches for $13. When it arrived, I was super shocked at how little material was actually there for that price. Surely it was a poor deal. I need price range recommendations, if anyone could comment, I would appreciate it.

    • @merrymabelmarket

Some people do. It's something people have strong opinions about. I did when I first started quilting. After much experience, I no longer wash fabric first. I use "Shout" color catchers the first few times I wash a quilt. And... I use cotton batting which is going to shrink a titch anyway. (So my cotton fabric shrinks with it.) My quilts all look lovely, so this works great for me.
